Project Overview (DRC)
Cleaner Air. Healthier Families. Protected Forests.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, nearly 74% of people live on less than $2.15 a day, and only 9% have access to electricity. Most families rely on charcoal or firewood to cook, exposing women and children to harmful smoke every day and straining already limited household budgets.
Each year, the DRC loses over 311,000 hectares of forest, much of it driven by charcoal production. This threatens the Congo Basin, the world’s second-largest rainforest and the millions of people who rely on it.
Our Impact with the Jikokoa Stove
BURN’s Jikokoa is the world’s most fuel-efficient charcoal stove. In the DRC, it is:
- Reducing fuel use
- Cutting smoke emissions
- Saving households dollars in fuel costs
- Protecting forests by lowering charcoal demand
The Jikokoa is already transforming lives across the country. Families breathe cleaner air, spend less on fuel, and have more time for education, work, and care.
Your support helps scale clean cooking access in the DRC, delivering verified carbon reductions and life-changing benefits to households in need.
