Delivering High Integrity Carbon Credits with the Greatest Impact

Using Carbon Finance to Scale Clean Cooking in Africa

At BURN, carbon finance is not just how we fund our work; it is how we scale life-changing impact across Africa. To date, we have distributed over 5 million clean cookstoves, reaching more than 27 million people across 12 African countries, and reducing over 50 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Our Impact Beyond Carbon: Delivering on the SDGs

BURN’s commitment goes beyond carbon offsetting. Our clean cooking projects deliver measurable co-benefits that support 8 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through large-scale stove distribution and carbon finance, we help reduce emissions while improving health, livelihoods, gender equality, and environmental protection across Africa.

Where We Work:

Protecting Forests, Empowering Communities

Our clean cooking and carbon offset projects span 12 African countries, including
Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Malawi, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Somalia, Ghana, DRC, Mozambique, Zambia and Madagascar.

In each country, we tailor our approach to reflect local cooking habits, energy systems, and environmental challenges. Our goal is the same everywhere: deliver high-impact, high-integrity clean cooking projects that serve both people and planet.

Africa is home to the Congo Basin—the world's second-largest rainforest. Yet millions of trees are lost each year for cooking fuel. By deploying fuel-efficient biomass stoves and scalable electric cookers, we're helping to slow deforestation, protect biodiversity, and ease pressure on fragile ecosystems.

How We Ensure High-Integrity Carbon Projects

BURN factory workers

We know the carbon market demands trust, and we're building it every day.

BURN is one of the only vertically integrated carbon project developers in Africa, managing the full value chain from stove production and field monitoring to credit issuance and reporting. We combine rigorous data systems with community-centred project design to ensure every credit we issue reflects real, measurable impact.

Here's how we do it:

Our stoves achieve industry-leading thermal efficiency, generating meaningful fuel savings and carbon reductions. Stoves are durable, locally relevant and designed with customer feedback to ensure people actually use them.

BURN is the only cookstove project developer that covers the full carbon value chain in Africa. We do it all: from product design and manufacturing, distribution, after-sales service, and carbon issuance. This makes us an unmatched high-impact, high-integrity project.

BURN selects distribution areas based on feasibility studies and willingness-to-pay assessments to ensure our projects are bankable. Our distribution functions in areas that lack competitors or target criteria for carbon-subsidized stoves.

BURN believes integrity comes from ground-truthed data, so we conduct four-day in-household Kitchen Performance Tests (KPTs) rather than use default values or remote surveys. In addition, we have independent, academic evidence of the impact of our projects.

Whether you're buying carbon credits to meet your climate goals or investing in high-impact ESG solutions, you can count on BURN to deliver with integrity.
